BCCRF Advocate Program
December 9 - December 13, 2009
San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium (SABCS)
The Breast Cancer Care & Research Fund provides scholarships for eligible advocates to attend the annual San Antonio Breast Cancer Symposium. The Symposium is an international event held in San Antonio, Texas in which approximately 9,000 researchers, oncologists, advocates and others in the scientific field learn about and discuss current and cutting edge breast cancer research.
Purpose
The BCCRF Patient Advocate program is designed to empower the advocate and to educate and disseminate information to the community.
Applicant Scholarship Qualifications
ELIGIBILITY
- At least one year out of primary cancer treatment
- Belong to an advocacy organization or represent a constituency so information can be disseminated
- Only new applicants who have not received this scholarship are eligible
- Interest in the science of breast cancer
- Letter of recommendation from a health care professional or advocate
AGREEMENT
- Must attend the entire conference which includes presentations, nightly mentor and poster sessions
- Write an article on assigned topics which will later be posted on our website
- Present with an oncologist at SABCS community updates held in Los Angeles and Orange Counties
Scholarships will be awarded to those who meet these qualifications
Scholarships cover airfare, registration and housing. All arrangements will be made by BCCRF.
Scholarship recipients are responsible for meals not provided by the symposium and all incidentals.
Applicants must fill out an application form by September 8, 2009
If selected, an email notification will be sent to you by October 1, 2009
An advocate orientation meeting will follow scholarship awards.
